Amy (aka, 'Nurse Amy') knew she always wanted to be a nurse, and successfully graduated on the dean’s list from nursing school in 2004. Her wealth of clinical experience in family practice and working alongside Dr. Steves in various capacities through the years brought her to help start The Town Doctor as she wanted to see healthcare done differently. She thrives on taking care of people well and encouraging them to reach their healthcare goals. Her experience centers on personal wellness, reduction of health risks, and healthcare costs through disease prevention. Understanding how food can impact us, and be used as medicine to help address a wide variety of lifestyle diseases is what she loves to talk about most. Her diverse skills span well women care, assisting in minor surgeries, phlebotomy and a passion for educating patients in the areas of nutrition and weight management. Understanding small steps lead to great change, she combines her strong organizational abilities with attention to detail, coaching patients to better health. A wife, mother, and grandmother she values her beautiful family and peaceful moments spent growing her garden, swimming, reading her bible or crocheting in her free time.
“This model allows me the time to get to know patients really well and support them along the way.” - Nurse Amy
Joy joined the Town Doctor as an educator and experience specialist serving patients while helping them to understand the many benefits of what direct primary care can offer. She grew up in a homeschooling family of 14, and always loved following paths that were non-traditional and ‘out of the box’. Graduating with honors and a math degree from Cumberland University, she knew she wanted to spend time in a career where she could make a difference in both people’s lives, and in her community. A natural educator, she enjoys breaking down the numbers for both individuals and business owners to show the power of this growing model and how it can bring incredible value to them. Capitalizing on her natural leadership abilities, she kindly learns where they are at, and then leads individuals to understand how they too can make a difference in their health. In her free time she enjoys playing music with her husband, traveling to new places, trying new recipes, and leisurely walks with her dog.
"One of the many reasons I love working with The Town Doctor is the relationship I can build with patients, and knowing I'm just a text, email or phone call away. It's simple. We're creating an experience for people that raises the bar." -Joy Steves, Educator & Experience Specialist
